Resembling a pre-historic animal more than an inhabitant of the modern-day African bush, the rhinoceros is an awe-inspiring creature. A girth of 1 1/2 to 2 tons tipped with a devastating horn, rhinos face almost no threat of predation. Unfortunately, their value as dagger handles in Yemen resulted in heavy poaching and, though making a promising recovery, the rhinoceros still remains a highly endangered species.
