A Portrait of the Artist Wil Hallford is a professional photographer, currently residing in Jackson, Mississippi, having recently finished 4-years of photography and development work in Kenya, East Africa. Two of the years he served as the managing director of a local safari company, allowing him to continue his work focusing on improving the standard of living in Kenya’s rural communities by increasing business skills and creating sustainable income-generating activities. Wil became a well-known and established safari guide as a result of his passion and love for the wildlife of Africa, and his ability to share that passion with clients both in terms of understanding & photographing their safari experience. After an extremely nomadic childhood, Wil eventually settled in Jackson, Mississippi, USA, where he finished a B.S. in Psychology and moved on to work with children and youth with psychological disorders in the State Hospital at Whitfield. Wil went on to earn his Masters in Business with an emphasis on international strategy and entrepreneurship at the Manderson School at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Keeping with a strong love for international work, Wil joined the U.S. Peace Corps and subsequently moved to Kenya to work in the sustainable enterprise development program, specifically in the realm of eco-tourism. After 2 years of working with organizations such as the African Wildlife Foundation and the East African Wildlife Society, Wil took up residence in Kenya and took over the Managing Director position in a community-based safari company in order to continue his work in eco-tourism and further indulge his love of the wilds of the country. A photographer since he was able to hold a camera, Wil has traveled extensively, photographing a wide range of subjects, but it was not until arriving in Kenya that he found his niche in the local wildlife and landscapes. A devoted conservationist and wildlife enthusiast, Wil spends every moment in Kenya in the bush with the wildlife. Specializing in Amboseli National Park, Masai Mara National Reserve and Tsavo West and East National Parks, Wil shares an intimate knowledge of each park’s residents with his clients, identifying most animals by name and sharing their personal histories and stories. Although he has a genuine love for all of Kenya’s wildlife, Wil is at his best around leopards and the other big cats, a passion that shows thru in his art. This website is the culmination of years of photographic work in Kenya of its landscapes, people, and wildlife. The site is continually updated to accommodate new photographs from recent safaris and excursions. All of the photographs on this site are available for purchase and we hope that visitors will find something that intrigues and captures them as much as the subjects have to the artist. Further information on Wil’s work and history in Kenya, as well as an open forum for commenting on specific photographs, discussing wildlife photography, or simply conversing with Wil about whatever seems pertinent at the time, is available in this page’s sub-folders by clicking on the following links or those found in the navigation bar at the top of this page. Wil eagerly welcomes all comments, discussions, and opportunities to converse with visitors to his portfolio. And with that let us say, Karibu Wil Hallford Photography, You are always most welcome. |
