The elephant is the largest land animal on earth - adult bulls weigh as much as 6-8 tons. Extremely protective of their calves, able to reach speeds of 30 m.p.h., and boasting tusks up to 10ft in length, elephants have no natural predators in the wild. With an average lifespan of 60-70 years, bonds between mothers & daughters often last their a lifetime. Not surprisingly, elephant behavior often seems very similar to our own, even to the point of displaying emotion.
