the large herbivores
The Cape Buffalo
The most unpredictable of this group and, therefore, usually the most feared by the local tribes.
The African Elephant
The largest land animals on earth. Elephants travel in family herds with bonds between mothers and daughters lasting up to 60 years!
The Giraffe
Seeming perhaps a bit “unbalanced” at first glance. Giraffe move with dignified grace across the plains, and are remarkable runners.
The Hippopotamus
In contrast to a peaceful facade, hippos are strongly territorial, and account for more deaths than any other animal in Africa
The Rhinoceros
Despite heavy poaching for its horn, parks and conservation groups are helping ensure these amazing creatures’ future.
